The composer lives currently in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  Doctoral studies were at Oxford University, St. Andrews University and Union University. He has taught grades from pre-school through university level. His primary area was American music, and ancient music to the extent that it can be studied. Ethnological studies were music of the native Americans, the plains tribes, done on-site. He has much archival and museum experience. He is an outdoors-man and an avid long distance motorcyclist and rider coach.

Words are always inadequate when attempting to describe the processes of composition. It can begin with a word, a colour, a sound, an in-the-mind-only chord, an emotional response.  I think of the first part as a "phantasm'. Time and work, often mountains of it lead to an "abstract"  and eventually to a "concrete".  Refining the concrete is arduous and at some more developed point becomes a sheer editing process that can go endlessly until at a still further point the work is true, "inevitable", not  a mere case of writing black dots.  In my own case, I find that most of the time, final editing involves more deletion that adding new material. It is a compulsion. John Wilson
